TCL Exhibition

TCL Exhibition Design

The challenge was to create consistent design language for different TCL product
families and design environments. Make public flow and interaction with products
more richer and unpredictable. The home symbol is the best element to communicate a story about TVs. TV is not a wearable tech and belongs naturally to home.

Different sections represent different product lines. Each space is unique and tells the story about design, picture quality, sound and most important offers a richer experience to visitors.

The Pin

URBAN APPROACH
The surrounding of the Watertower shares the destiny of the industrial area in the surrounding – decadence and neglect. The area is defined by the low-density single-housing units, railroad structures, small-scale streets and one of the more important streets of town, one of three entrances to the town – Jablanska Street. In order to include the surrounding the tower, the „PIN“ is being approached from two sides, two ways intersecting in the tower, creating a gathering place and thus boosting the life of the area.

THE PIN
On the existing structure of the tower a simple sphere is being added, metaphorically creating a PIN, or PRIBADAČA, instantly marking the location, creating a landmark of the neglected surrounding. The PIN is universal symbol, putting the cultural scene of the town and region on the map, it is sort of physical manifestation of point of reference.

MEDIA PIN
The sphere, the PIN is made of steel construction with translucent material (for example ETFE membrane), armed with couple of beamers or LED diodes, which transforms the sphere into MEDIA PIN, big spherical display able to project any kind of artistic, marketing, textual content on it. It could display what is currently going on in the Pin Center, or it could be used for bringing out the statement about what is going on in the town, region or world. It can be combined with audio support, so it could host any kind of events, visual, musical or even commercial. It is a very interactive media, providing people possibility to display their messages, opinions, even marriage proposals. The MEDIA PIN itself represents a new way to exhibit art and to reach far more people (than are actually frequenting such places). The interior of the sphere provides a very particular spatial atmosphere, and could be used again for variety of the functions, like lecturing, exhibiting, beamer projections, or as the observation deck.

ADDITION
The structure of the water tower is being preserved, a new five-meter story is being added on the existing structure. The communication block (staircase and elevator) is being added on the northwestern side of the tower, rounded to formally fit the shape and to make the spaces inside of the tower clean, without any trespassing to other stories. The envelope of the communication tower is made of a transparent material, wires to make the contrast to the mass of the tower and to underline the industrial heritage of the tower and area. The ground floor is being opened towards the south and towards the intersection of the two approaching axes. The goal is to invite people into it, and to connect the PIN with the surrounding.

FUNCTION
The aim of the idea to create a frame for variety of possible activities, not to concentrate just to couple of them. We do this by creating different and flexible spaces, which can host all kind of different usages, with emphasize on cultural activities. Lectures, concerts, exhibitions, gatherings, events, courses, musical rehearsals, co-working spaces, meetings, bookshop, tourist observation deck, projections, concerts, art-fairs, food presentations, eco-summits. The parcel on which the tower is can be used hosting bigger events with the MEDIA PIN as huge display inviting the people and providing the visual support.

Austrian House

Austrian House

Today’s harsh and uncontrolled raids on the free urban areas do not leave us much of such space and this is the reason why the design of such an object has to be approached with much ATTENTION AND RESPECT.

Taking into account these facts, we have decided to design an object that will be the SYNTHESIS OF INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR SPACE, an object inviting to enter it and consume it – OPEN HOUSE.

To really make an OPEN HOUSE we use the perfect circular shape of the location and in its outer edge we design a circular ramp up to max 5%. The ramp extends from the entrance lobby up to the first floor and continues all the way up to the roof. It is conceived as an UNINTERRUPTED CIRCULAR LINE on which it can be continuously communicated from ground floor to roof and back.

Inspiration can always be found in the famous Wright Guggenheim Museum where the visitor simply gets TRAPPED IN THE INTERIOR so skillfully guided through the space that one simply does not want to leave, always returning to the beginning and always with the same desire to go back again because the beginning and the end are make the PERFECT CIRCLE.

The Ramp offers BEAUTIFUL SEQUENCES of the surrounding park where the fragments are captured in the frames making beautiful pictures that are repeated at an EQUAL RHYTHM where each one is both different and at the same and all that circular through ALL FOUR SEASONS.

In addition to this permanent exhibition the “FRAGMENTS OF NATURE”, ramp offers a variety of use: exhibitions, presentations, bike tours, children’s races, slides and etc.

A special segment of this solution is the USABLE FLAT ROOF that we simply had to put into function of this MEETING POINT. These additional m2 will always find its application and will always have support when it comes to an object such as an Austrian house.

On the ground floor, besides the entrance windshield and the exhibition area, there are also administration rooms, coffee bar with block kitchen, bathroom and communication. On the first floor are workshops, cabinets, auxiliary rooms, sanitary facilities and communications.

The facade of the building is a COMBINATION OF FULL AND EMPTY (GLASS) combination of full and empty (glass) surfaces that emphasize the shape of the circle in an equal rhythm and somewhat resemble the famous Colosseum in Rome, where in this case it is an ARENA OF CULTURE, ART, ENTERTAINMENT, SCIENCE.

The building, with its architecture and applied materials UNOBTRUSIVELY MERGES WITH SURROUNDING AND THE PARK as if it had always been its integral part.

House M

House M

The goal was not just to connect physically two parts of the city, than to create a pleasant social interaction between people and surrounding. Through technical elements a vivification of an area  of „donauweg“ should be created. Through slightly curved lines, which symbolically are connected through two parts of the bridge in form of shaking hands, a harmony, tolerance and friendship are being expressed.  This bridge as a  well-organized infrastructural unit is giving a possibility of uninterrupted movement of pedestrians, cyclists and disabled persons.

One of the important aspects of concept was, that the context of the old Radetzky bridge and Urania should be respected and interpreted in an contemporary way. The old Radetzky bridge should not be covered at any moment by the new bridge, than rather it should be conceptually extended. This panorama is during the night underlined by the lightening effects of the bridge, which are positioned between the „ribs“. When the bascule bridge  is down, it underlines formally the presence of the Radetzky bridge.
